Material Selection Considerations

Machines cutting metal pipes have robust frames (steel weldments) and hardened tool fixtures. Cutting heads (saw, torch) use materials suitable for the pipe (e.g. tungsten-carbide blades for steel, brass/plasma nozzles). For plasma, consumable tips are tungsten and copper. For saws, tooth geometry and material (high-speed steel or carbide) are chosen for the pipe material to minimize wear. Machines must manage sparks or dust (shields and extraction).
