Description

The insulation resistance testing of high horsepower induction motors involves capacitive discharge currents of the order of 5000 mA at typical medium voltages such as 30 kV or higher. Also can be tested with this high voltage tester are very large distribution transformers, induction generators used in wind energy systems, lightning protection systems and any insulation accessories meant to withstand voltages of the order of 30 kV.
The system comes with an expertly designed high voltage transformer of the order of 30 kV that is capable of sourcing leakage current in the order of 5000 mA for considerable time without a significant drop in other performance parameters in the system.   The capacitive currents are measured with true rms sensing circuits that accurately implement the thresh-hold go / no go leakage currents, thus making accurate conformance as how the application demands.
Application and Benefits:   The primary application of the tester is to test insulation of the rotor / stator of high horse power induction motors and generators against high capacitive discharge leakage currents through their insulation paths which are at times as high as 5 A. The burnout feature ensures pin pointing of the fault location, a key feature for testing engineers on the factory floors as well as Research and Development Engineers involved in insulation design of industrial motors and transformers.   In addition, the user may opt for a host of customizable features (given below) to suit their unique requirement.   Pneumatic test jigs & programmable controller are optional modules to mount & hold the device under test and to automate the test process. Most hipot tests are carried out between different points on the device under test in sequence. Hence the jigs along with the programmable controller facilitate automatic sequencing of hipot test & expedite the test procedure.   This equipment is available in multi-tester configuration wherein hipot testing can be clubbed with other test modules such as current injection, continuity testing, millivolt drop and micro ohm measurement plus other go / no go parameters making it an ideal instrument to be integrated on production floors.   Other safety features include transparent enclosures, zero interlock facility, door close interlock for operator safety.   Optional PC interface module connects the hipot tester with PC based Test ware for data logging and stand alone operation and thus, test reports can be generated in a customized format.   Special models are available with higher voltage capabilities such as 50 and 70 kV for specialized and difficult applications for testing bigger AC traction motors.
